Niche Research & Keyword Discovery
Ahrefs — Keyword Research
The tool I open before writing any article. KD scores, search volume, competitor gap analysis. I run every keyword through Ahrefs before deciding whether to target it. See full SEO tools breakdown →
Content Production
Claude Pro — First Drafts & Structure
I write content briefs, then use Claude to draft. The output needs editing — voice calibration and factual checking — but the first draft quality is good enough to cut writing time by 60%. Best for long-form reviews and comparison posts. Full AI writing tools breakdown →
On-Page SEO Optimization
Surfer SEO — Content Editor
Run every draft through Surfer's Content Editor before publishing. It compares your content against the top 10 results and flags missing semantic keywords, heading structure issues, and word count gaps. The score correlates closely with ranking performance in my testing.
Workflow Automation
Make.com — Pipeline Automation
I use Make.com to automate my content brief generation pipeline: keyword in → AI-generated outline + competitor research → formatted draft brief → notification. Also aggregates affiliate revenue across networks into one monthly summary. See the full automation workflow →
Link Management
I currently use a simple spreadsheet to track affiliate links across programs. Once this site scales to 50+ active affiliate links, I'll add a link management tool. Candidates: Pretty Links (WordPress) or Lasso. Not ready to commit to a recommendation yet without more testing.
Email Marketing & Audience Building
ConvertKit (Kit) — Email for Creators
ConvertKit is built for content creators doing affiliate marketing. Key features: tag-based subscriber segmentation, sequence automation, and a visual automation builder. I use it to send monthly income report roundups that also promote affiliate products. Free up to 1,000 subscribers — enough to validate email as a revenue channel before committing to a paid plan. Starting at $29/month when you scale.
Analytics & Conversion Tracking
The standard affiliate marketing analytics stack:
- Google Analytics 4: Traffic source attribution — know whether your affiliate commissions are driven by organic search, direct, or referral. Critical for doubling down on what works.
- Google Search Console: Keyword-level impression and click data. Shows you which articles are getting seen but not clicked (title/meta issue) vs not seen at all (ranking issue).
- PartnerStack / Impact dashboards: Each affiliate network has its own reporting. Track click-to-conversion rate per product — a 3%+ CVR means the product converts well and is worth building more content around.
- Microsoft Clarity (free): Session recordings and heatmaps. Useful for understanding whether users are finding and clicking your affiliate CTAs or scrolling past them.
